Part of good engineering practice in the maintenance of broadcast facilities is the periodic taking of critical parameters and characteristics.  This can include Frequency, Modulation, NRSC Compliance, Bandwidth, AM Directional Monitor Points and others. 

Sierra Multimedia can provide independent inspection of station logs & records as well as the technical operation and records.  We can then provide the necessary corrective action.

Sierra Multimedia can also assist radio station owners and buyers by providing a complete inspection of stations to be purchased.  This provides the buyer with an independent and detailed report of the property to be acquired.

It has been many years since the FCC deregulated and eliminated the requirement for most periodic measurements.  Gone are monthly frequency measurements and annual audio proofs.

Now, “Proofs” mostly refer to RF measurements.  Most are one-time others are annual.  Nearly all however require test equipment most stations do not have on hand such as a spectrum analyzer.

When a new transmitter is installed, a RF proof measures for occupied bandwidth and harmonic attenuation.  For FM stations this is a one time process.

AM stations have the same requirement for new transmitters, but also must be repeated on an annual basis.  These are known as the NRSC measurements and are required to show the AM station meets the bandwidth limits of the NRSC standards.

 While only required on an as-need basis, many stations do not check their frequencies on a regular basis.

IBOC HD Radio:

Here are a whole new set of measurements.  When first installed FM stations must test to meet the occupied bandwidth, but also have minimal spectral regrowth.  For AM stations it is the same, but this must be repeated annually with the NRSC measurements.

HD Radio Re-certification:

While required for AM, those annual tests should be conducted on FM stations operating in HD  as well.  Are you HD on FM?  Are you still in compliance with all of the requirements?
